7/8 Catholic Grade School Football League
2024 Rules
Rules and Regulations
1. Must have 12 practices before they play the first game.
2. PAT: Kick is worth 2 points, running or throwing is worth 1 point
3. Football size is 200 series.
4. Weight-ins and weight limits:
i. All players will participate in a weigh-in prior to start of the season to determine
eligibility to catch and/or carry the football. In the 7th/8th league athletes must be
140lbs and below. If an athlete exceeds the weight limit, then that athlete is unable to
carry or catch the ball until the second weigh in. All athletes 130-150 will be weighed
in a second time. Weigh-ins will be conducted by the Gonzaga Preparatory School
Elementary Athletic Coordinator or designee in the presence of the players head
coach. Should a player exceed the weight limit they become ineligible to carry and/or
catch the ball for the remainder of the season.
ii. No player over 140 lbs may advance the ball on offense or special teams, except on an
onside kick. On kickoff return a player over 140 lbs can return an onside kick without
going backward to receive. If a player over 140 pounds possesses the ball on offense
(including on a punt, field goal attempt or point after attempt), the ball will be dead
at the spot of possession, or if the ball has advanced past the line of scrimmage (other
than on a fumble recovery), the ball will be dead back at the line of scrimmage. If a
player over 140 pounds receives a punt, the ball will be dead at the spot of possession.
iii. All players over 140 lbs on offense must start each play with their hand on the ground
on the line of scrimmage and may not split out.
iv. All players over 140 pounds on defense must start each play with their hand on the
ground no wider than the outside shoulder of the widest offensive lineman or tight
end. All players over 140 lb. on defense must move forward at the snap of the ball,
they cannot drop into pass coverage.
v. All players over 140 pounds must wear a number between #50 and #79.
5. On defense, the team may have no more than 4 players on the line of scrimmage TE to TE
box and all linebackers and defensive backs must be at least 5 yards off the ball. This rule
does not apply on any 4th down play or any down where the ball is on or inside the 5 yard
line.
6. If a team is up by 18 points or more at any point during the course of the game, there is no
kickoff and the team that is behind will start with the ball on their own 35 yard line. If the
point differential at any point is less than 18 points, then kickoffs will resume.
7. Overtime: Any game tied at the end of regulation shall go to overtime. Overtime shall consist
of a “Kansas Tiebreaker” in which each team will get one possession from the 10 yard line.
The winner of a coin toss will determine which team plays offense first. If the score is still
tied after each team has its possession from the 10 yard line, the game will be decided on one
play (which may not be a field goal) from the 3 yard line. If the offense scores, it wins. If the
defense stops the offense from scoring, it wins. The winner of a coin toss determines which
team plays offense. (In a playoff game, the “Kansas Tiebreaker” continues until a winner is
determined).

8. Games will have 8 minute quarters.
9. There will be a running clock in effect after the completion of the first half and a team is
winning by 35 points or more. Once a running clock is in effect, the running clock will
continue for the remainder of the game.
10. Except as otherwise set forth above, all rules shall be the same as WIAA high school football
rules.
