Vision Statement

Warmth and caring fuel our commitment to all who seek an intellectual and open spiritual and religious home.

We are a February 2023

As we go

into what has become

the one of the

worst months of our

Oklahoma winter sea- son we look forward to

more daylight in the

coming weeks.

It is hard for me to

believe that another

month has gone by. My

personal healing process

has started to make a lit- tle progress in the posi- tive direction much to

my doctor’s and home

health nurses delight

(and to me also).

Our church has be- come certified for anoth- er year (an annual pro- cess of submitting our

membership and finan- cial data to the UUA). We

are in good standing and

officially have 31 mem- bers.

We hope that all

remain warm and safe as

we weather the current

season. Blessed Be to

all!!

Propaganda: Why Socialism Never Lives Up To the Hype

A long history of fear and disinformation have created fearsome

expectations about various economic theories. Some of these an- ticipated results never occur, yet they continue to be part of the

hype. Socialism is one such theory, and the hype is strong with this

one.

Feb 19 - Mark Christian

Through the Web, Darkly

The interdependent web of all existence, which we use as one of

our sources, is no more free of darkness than any other aspect of

our life. What do the negative implications of interdependence

have to teach us?

Feb 26 - Donna Compton

The Challenge of Belonging to Each Other

A Unitarian Universalist Confession by Mary Edes challenges us to

"live as though interdependence were a personal choice and not a fact

of our existence." How do we answer that challenge? Let's talk.

Wayne Leslie told us he had

a great time with his son and

daughter-in-law. He was cha- grined that he failed to pick

up people for the symphony.

His good friend, Al Edwards passed away in

his sleep. They had worked together and Al

was rather like a son. They attended the

memorial which was unlike any other. He

read us an article from a Baylor publication

about his granddaughter and her skill sing- ing opera. They will be attending her next

opera in February in Waco.

Emily Hiltner went to the VanGogh exhibit

and loved it. She will be starting on Accu- tane. She was in a car accident on

12/12/22 and State Farm has finally ac- cepted liability and her car is salvageable,

not totaled and will be in the shop for six

weeks.

Linda Gray celebrated her eightieth birthday

and her daughter came to work the fire- works stand and they had a wonderful time.

Nancy Jefferis announced she has moved

to Stone Creek Assisted Living Center. Her

two cats are with her which makes moving

away easier. Her suite number is 212, and

there is a note on the door “Beware of Es- caped Cats”.

Michelle Madison shared her grief over hav- ing to put her cat down. She then rescued

two cats. Her Robotics Team is starting

competition and her friend David joined us

for service.

Hal Yocum is learning to

understand cats. They

inherited a cat which

seems to be nearly hu- man. He is excited that

his grandchildren have invited him to go to

Carlsbad over Spring Break. There was a

rare species of gull at Lake Hefner and eve- ry serious birder from Oklahoma and be- yond came to see it. He has seen 634 dif- ferent birds so far, 370 birds this year

alone.

Dave Pasto is concerned about a friend

who has moved to assisted living. Dave an- nounced that he has been diagnosed with

Parkinsons’s Disease.

Jana Leslie told us about her cat who got

up on the edge of the bed and vocalized for

the first time ever. She attended the me- morial for Al Edwards which was held in an

African American church and was quite dif- ferent from others she has attended.

Mark Christian thanked Mike for the ride

from Stillwater. Mark is scheduled for a

prostate biopsy with a 60-80% chance of

cancer.

Donna Compton reported that her daughter

had recently had Covid and that she, Donna

has been diagnosed with pneumonia in her

left lung. She does not have Covid but is

wearing a mask.

Please keep these people in your

thoughts and send posi- tive/congratulatory energies or pray- ers.
