Inmate Arrested After Walking Away from the Minimum Security Colorado Correctional

Facility

On the evening of January 10, 2021 an inmate from the minimum security Colorado

Correctional Facility(CCC) reportedly climbed the fence of the facility and walked away

on foot.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office notified CCC staff that a civilian had contacted

them reporting that a man had come to their residence asking for clothing and informed

them that he was a CCC inmate. The inmate left the house with clothing and a blanket.

The facility conducted an emergency count and inmate Michael Goelz (DOC #165834)

was unaccounted for.

Shortly after the report came in, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office apprehended the

offender approximately 1.5 miles from the facility. The inmate was transported from the

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center where

he will be held until he is transferred to a higher custody facility. The inmate may face

additional charges and the Office of the Inspector General is investigating.

Goelz was admitted to CDOC on 09/29/2020 after being sentenced to 4 years for drug

related charges (Jefferson County Case #19CR1858)
