Bring a book, take a book!
Banned Books Week (October 1-7) is an annual national event celebrating the right to read. Banned Books Week was originally
launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries, but it
continues to stay relevant due to a contemporary resurgence of these challenges. In celebration of Banned Book Week, the Griot
Institute for the Study of Black Lives and Cultures will be hosting How to Get Away with Reading: Banned Book Week Book Swap!
What is It: The Banned Book Week Book Swap is a public pop-up event ideal for anyone on campus looking to get their hands on
some new reads, offload some titles they haven’t revisited, or run into some fellow bookworms! Hosted on the ground floor of the
ELC, the book swap will begin with 10-15 different book options provided by the Griot Institute. Passerbyers will be invited to take a
book, free of charge, but encouraged to leave a book as well! Sticky Notes will be provided for attendees to leave short notes on
the inside the front covers of their books with their name and why they recommend it.
Location: Ground Floor, ELC
Dates: Monday, October 2nd from 11:00AM - 1:00PM | Thursday, October 5th from 9:00AM - 11:00AM
