Greeting: Jodee Bert

The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you.

Preparing to hear God’s Word

*Call to Worship Scott Miller

Arise, shine; for your light has come,

and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

Nations shall come to your light

and rulers to the brightness of your rising.

Jesus said: I am the light of the world.

Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.

All: The grace of God has dawned upon the world with healing for all humankind.

*Hymn We Three Kings of Orient Are

We three kings of Orient are; bearing gifts we traverse afar, field and fountain, moor and mountain,

following yonder star.

Refrain:

O star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright, westward leading, still proceeding, guide

us to thy perfect light.

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain, gold I bring to crown him again, King forever, ceasing never, over

us all to reign. [Refrain]

Frankincense to offer have I; incense owns a deity nigh; prayer and praising, gladly raising,

worshiping God Most High. [Refrain]

Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume breathes a life of gathering gloom; sorrowing, sighing, bleeding,

dying, sealed in the stone-cold tomb. [Refrain]

Glorious now behold him arise; King and God and Sacrifice: Alleluia, Alleluia, sounds through the

earth and skies. [Refrain]

*Call to Confession Jodee Bert

Slow down. Turn off the sounds of the world for a moment. Be still and know that God is with us.

Trusting in His grace, let us confess our sins.

*Prayer of Confession (Unison) Jodee Bert

God of glory, you sent Jesus among us as the light of the world, to reveal your love for all

people. We confess that our sin and pride hide the brightness of your light. We turn away from

the poor; we ignore cries for justice; we do not strive for peace. In your mercy, cleanse us of

our sin, and baptize us once again with your Spirit, that, forgiven and renewed, we may show

forth your glory shining in the face of Jesus Christ. Amen

Silence for Personal Confession

*Assurance of Pardon Scott Miller

We praise you that in the fullness of time, you revealed your love by sending your Son Jesus to be

the Light of the world. He came to heal our brokenness and to set before us the ways of justice and

peace. I declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ you are forgiven of your sins. In Jesus Christ we

are forgiven.

*Gloria Patri #579

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is

now, and ever shall be, world without end. A--men. A--men.

*Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed Jodee Bert

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only

Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under

Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose

again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father

Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy

Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the

resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer Scott Miller

~ LITANY FOR EPIPHANY ~

Leader: All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God, Alleluia!

People: Shout to the Lord, all the earth, Alleluia!

Leader: With joy let us pray to our Savior, the Son of God who became one of us, saying: The grace

of God be with us all. O Christ, let your gospel shine in every place where the Word of life is not yet

received. Draw the whole creation to yourself that your salvation may be known through all the earth.

People: The grace of God be with us all.

Leader: O Christ, Savior and Lord, extend your church to every place. Make it a place of welcome for

people of every race and tongue.

People: The grace of God be with us all.

Leader: O Christ, Ruler of rulers, direct the work and thoughts of the leaders of nations that they may

seek justice, and further peace and freedom for all.

People: The grace of God be with us all.

Leader: O Christ, Master of all, support of the weak and comfort of the afflicted, strengthen the

tempted and raise the fallen. Watch over the lonely and those in danger. Give hope to the despairing

and sustain the faith of the persecuted.

All: The grace of God be with us all.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on

earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we

forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the

kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*Doxology #592 Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him

above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*Prayer of Dedication Scott Miller

*Hymn Watchman, Tell Us of the Night

Watchman, tell us of the night, what its signs of promise are. Traveler, what a wondrous sight: see

that glory-beaming star. Watchman, does its beauteous ray news of joy or hope foretell?

Traveler, yes; it brings the day, promised day of Israel.

Watchman, tell us of the night; higher yet that star ascends. Traveler, blessedness and light,

peace and truth its course portends. Watchman, will its beams alone gild the spot that gave them

birth? Traveler, ages are its own; see, it bursts o’er all the earth.
