DeWitt Hit League Rules
Rules
● Teams fill out score sheet when they arrive with their batting order
● 5 minutes prior to their start time will be designated for players to take warm-up swings.
○ Ex. - Game time starts at 6:30, warm up time is 6:25-6:30
● Games will start on the hour or half hour. Show up early if you want your swings.
Game Play
● Players are allowed two swings at most. A miss is considered a swing.
● Hits will be scored in the following manner:
○ A line drive between the first and second yellow marker = Single
○ A line drive between the second and third yellow marker = Double
○ A line drive between the third yellow marker and back corner = Triple
○ A line drive above the back yellow maker = Home run
○ A line drive below the back yellow marker = Double
○ A one-hop bounce to the back of the cage = Single
● What is not scored as a hit
○ Any hit that hits the top of the cage
○ Any hit that bounces and hits the sides of the cage
○ Any hit that bounces more than once before hitting the back of the cage
● When a hit is granted the umpire will keep track of “ghost” runners on base.
● Runners will move around the bases based on hits
○ Ex. - man on 2nd and next batter hits a double. Runner on second would score.
● Teams will keep track of hits and runs scored
● Teams continue to hit for 25 consecutive minutes. During this time if 3 outs are reached,
runners on base are cleared and a new inning is started for score tracking purposes.
● Helmets must be worn at all times
● Teams need to hit with at least 4 players. If a fourth is not present, that batter will be
considered an out.
● Players should not bat out of order
● When the timer runs out, the current inning is finished. No new inning should start with 2
minutes or less left in game time.
● Teams will turn in their scorecards so stats can be calculated and posted on the DYBSA
website.
