Troop 77 and 177– BSA
Oak Grove UMC, Decatur, Georgia
Hiking at Appletree
Event Description
Camping at Appletree Campground and hiking on some of the 32+ miles of beautiful trails around the camp will be a
fantastic weekend as the autumn season begins. We will drive up to Appletree (3 hours) EARLY Saturday morning.
Participants should pack a lunch to eat on the trail Saturday or a patrol can plan for a trail lunch if needed for a
requirement . After arrival at Appletree the Troop will provide a quick breakfast (e.g. muffins, danish, yogurt, granola bars,
hardboiled eggs) and Scouts will have various options to hike out of Appletree Campground on the many trails throughout
the Nantahala National Forest. This campout and the location allow for excellent rank advancement opportunities and for
working on or completing Merit Badge requirements. Patrols will plan for a trail snack, dinner on Saturday, and breakfast
on Sunday. Bring money for Sunday lunch.
Transportation: Attending adults should be able to transport all participants to and from the campout
Payment, cancellation, and refunds: Invoices will be sent after registration closes on September 18. Payment should
be made by September 23. After September 23, no refund for food expenses will be given.
About our campsite: We are in Campsites B and C. Each site has its own picnic shelter, outdoor group gathering area
with a fire ring and lantern posts, restroom with flush toilets, water hydrant, designated parking area and a grassy field for
tents and activities. The campground offers a shower house.
