ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OFFERINGS
INTRODUCTION TO TEACHING AND LEARNING FOR FUTURE EDUCATORS (FC9079) 0.5 credit
This course will engage prospective education majors in topics related to teaching and learning. This course
introduces future educators to the historical, psychological, curricular, and sociological forces within school
classrooms.
PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING FOR FUTURE EDUCATORS (FC9099) 0.5 credit
This course will be a continuation of the first course, Introduction to Teaching and Learning for Future
Educators. Students will move from the historical and psychological perspectives to practical application.
Students will practice writing lesson plans, develop classroom management plans, explore various teaching
strategies, create a variety of assessments, tailor lessons to diverse learners, and incorporate reflective
teaching methods.
YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE (EN9179) 0.5 credit
Students read and familiarize themselves with the growing body of literature/genres written for and marketed
to adolescents including literature that focuses on diverse cultures. Students will read and discuss books
related to gender, difference, cultural diversity. Topics will include dystopic visions, friendship, coming of age,
technology, and a range of other social and psychological themes.
FINE AND PRACTICAL ARTS OFFERINGS
EXPLORING CHILDHOOD / PRESCHOOL LAB (FC9049) 1.0 credit
If you enjoy working with children or want to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education, this is the course
for you. This program provides an opportunity to study the development of children three through five years
old. The student will participate in observing, interacting, planning activities and teaching in a lab preschool
program. Administration reserves the right to deny enrollment due to behavioral issues. Note: This course can
be taken multiple times for advanced study of the subject.
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
DISTRICT INTERNSHIP (BU9259)
The BASD Internship Program is intended to provide upperclassmen with opportunities to participate in on- site or off-site experiences related to their career goal. Through this program students will interact with,
observe, and assist individuals who are employed in an occupation.
DUAL ENROLLMENT
BASD is partnering with local colleges and universities to provide students the opportunity to take and earn
college credit for an entry level education course prior to embarking on his/her post-secondary education.
