2. Medication & health

MELISA testing measures an immune response. Any drug that suppresses the immune system may affect test

results. Certain medications, such as steroids, must be avoided for 3 weeks to ensure accurate results. In addition,

antibiotics must be avoided for 4 weeks. For a list of medication and factors that may affect testing, see

melisa.org/medication. If testing shows that your cells are not responding adequately due to medication taken, $130

will be charged.

1. Diagnostic use

A positive reaction in the MELISA Lyme test demonstrates current active infection with Borrelia burgdorferi. The test

improves laboratory diagnosis of Lyme Borreliosis by confirming an active infection in patients with clinical suspicion

of Lyme disease.

The MELISA test covers the following antigens: Borrelia afzelii, Borrelia garinii and Borrelia burgdorferi senso stricto

p41-antigen internal fragments, peptide mix OspA/VlsE of Borrelia garinii, afzelii, senso stricto and full antigen lysate of

Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto.
