Dear Riverbat Family,

Austin Community College District continues to monitor the severe winter weather. This storm has proven to

be worse than was predicted, and Central Texas has been hit especially hard. Tens of thousands are without

power, and the icy, cold conditions are not expected to improve for the next few days. Our priority is your

well-being.

Because we want you to be able to focus on your health and safety, the college has decided to remain

closed through Sunday, February 21. All online, hybrid, and in-person classes are canceled as well as all

in-person and remote work.

Austin hasn’t experienced this level of cold, snow, and ice in recent memory. Even if temperatures begin to

gradually warm over the weekend, it’s important that you are able to take care of yourself, your family, and

neighbors. I encourage you to remain vigilant and cautious.

The college anticipates reopening Monday, February 22, on a regular schedule. We remain in regular

contact with the Austin-area Homeland Security and Emergency Management team and will share updates

if necessary. Continue to watch your email and visit the college’s homepage.

What’s most important now is your safety. Please take care of yourself and know that your college is

thinking about you and wishing you well.

Regards,

Richard M. Rhodes, Ph.D.

Chancellor

Austin Community College District
