IF SOMETHING LIKE WHAT’S BELOW
APPEARS ON MY COMPUTER SCREEN...
DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER!
IT’S A SCAM.
If it’s accompanied by alarm sounds, beeping, and/or a voice telling you
that your computer is about to crash and you’re going to lose everything,
turn off your speakers, and remember, it’s a scam.
If you call, they'll offer to fix the problem if you let them have remote access to
your computer. But then they'll demand big $ for the fix, and if you refuse to give
them your credit card, they'll lock your computer so no-one can use it.
To get out of one of these browser hijacks on a Windows computer, with one
hand, hold down both the Ctrl and Shift keys in the lower left of your keyboard,
and while doing that, with your other hand, tap the Esc key in the top-left. That
will open the Task Manager. In the list of running programs that appears, click on
the name of your web-browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox), and then click on End Task
in the lower-right, and the hijack will vanish.
